To Philip Hammond,
In the Autumn Budget, your government continued to hand tax giveaways to the biggest banks, while funding for children’s services – like foster care, adoption and Sure Start – continues to be cut.
These tax giveaways will see almost £5 billion handed back to banks. Meanwhile, cuts to children’s services have pushed the system into what charities have called a “crisis”, and have warned it is nearing a “catastrophe”.
I urge you to use this month’s Finance Bill to place the needs of our most vulnerable children above the financial interest of the largest banks, to make our country work for the many and not the few.
John McDonnell MP,
Shadow Chancellor of the Exchequer
