Election of the next Leader of Welsh Labour

Following the announcement by Mark Drakeford that he will be standing down as Welsh Labour Leader and First Minister of Wales, Welsh Labour has begun the process of selecting a new Leader. On this page you can find information about that election, and we will be providing regular updates.

After 2pm on 21st December, we will provide the details of prospective candidates who have met the minimum threshold to move on to the next stage. We will also provide the names of the MSs who have nominated them.

From 1st January, we will update this page every Friday with the latest details of CLP and Affiliate nominations, as well as PLP and Labour Group Leader supporting nominations.









Candidates

Two candidates have reached the threshold to continue to the next stage of the election. At the links below you can find the details of the nominations and supporting nominations each candidate has received, as well as a statement and social media links provided by each candidate. The candidate nominations on each page will be updated each Friday at 2pm, beginning from 5th January 2024.
