Tell the Tories: clean up Thanet's water - and the industry!
The water industry is in crisis after years of bosses paying out dividends and not investing in the system.
Consumers here in Thanet have paid the price with outages, leaks, higher bills and raw sewage dumped in our seas. We should not have to pay for their failures.
Southern Water have been releasing sewage into waters in Thanet including Walpole Bay, Botany Bay, Pegwell Bay, Margate Main Sands and Joss Bay.
It is not the public that should pay the price for industry failures.
The Tories have been letting this happen for too long. Enough is enough.
Labour will protect consumers and our precious coastline:
✅ Failure to improve will mean reduced dividends not higher bills or less investment
✅ Ensure the regulator uses its power to cap bills
✅ Review the rules on water industry taking on debt
✅ Mandatory monitoring of all sewage outlets
✅ Automatic fines for discharges
✅ Water bosses that routinely and systematically break the rules will be held professionally and personally accountable
